Privacy Policy
The part where we explain what we know about you
Last updated: January 2026
Look, we get it. Privacy policies are usually written by lawyers for other lawyers, and the rest of us just scroll to the bottom and click "I agree" while hoping for the best. We're going to try something different: plain English, no legalese, and only the stuff that actually matters.
What We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address. That's it. We don't ask for your phone number, mother's maiden name, or the street you grew up on. Just an email so we can verify you're a real person and not a bot with a suspicious interest in plat maps.
Usage Data
We keep track of basic stuff like what pages you visit, what you search for, and what documents you download. This helps us understand which features people actually use (and which ones we spent way too much time building for no reason).
Device Information
Standard web stuff: your browser type, device type, and general location (like "Idaho" not "your living room"). This helps us make sure the site works properly and isn't completely broken on that one browser your aunt still uses.
Cookies
Yes, we use cookies. No, not the delicious kind. The digital kind that help websites remember things.
Essential Cookies
These keep you logged in and remember your preferences. Without them, you'd have to sign in every time you clicked a link, and nobody wants that.
Analytics Cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site. It tells us things like "people really like searching by address" and "nobody has ever clicked that button." This data is aggregated and doesn't personally identify you.
Advertising Cookies
We use Google AdSense to show ads, which is how we keep PlatMap free. These cookies help show you ads that are (theoretically) relevant to your interests instead of completely random products. Google's advertising partners may also use cookies to serve ads based on your browsing history. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google's Ad Settings.
How We Use Your Data
- •To provide the service (you know, showing you plat maps)
- •To send you important account-related emails (password resets, not newsletters)
- •To improve the site based on how people actually use it
- •To show you ads (gotta keep the lights on somehow)
- •To prevent abuse and keep the service running smoothly
What We Don't Do
- •Sell your personal information to data brokers
- •Send you marketing emails unless you specifically ask for them (you won't)
- •Share your search history with anyone who asks
- •Use your data for anything creepy or weird
Third-Party Services
We use a few third-party services to make PlatMap work. They have their own privacy policies, and while we've tried to pick ones that aren't evil, you should know they exist:
- •Google Analytics – For understanding site usage
- •Google AdSense – For serving ads that keep the site free
- •Cloudflare – For security and making the site fast
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- •Request a copy of your data (we'll send you what we have, which isn't much)
- •Delete your account and associated data
- •Opt out of personalized advertising
- •Ask us questions about any of this
To exercise any of these rights, just email us at support@platmap.app. We're real people, we'll respond.
Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data. All connections are encrypted with HTTPS, passwords are hashed (we can't read them even if we wanted to), and we don't store sensitive information we don't need. That said, no website is 100% bulletproof, so please don't use "password123" as your password.
Changes to This Policy
If we make significant changes to this policy, we'll let you know. We won't just quietly update it and hope nobody notices. That's a jerk move.
Questions?
If you have questions about this privacy policy or how we handle your data, email us at support@platmap.app. We promise to respond in plain English.
